First Post in a While – SS’s 20 SL Questions Meme!

  1. When and how did you discover Second Life? – I saw a documentary on virtual worlds (featuring sl) and how our culture is advancing that way, and I thought I would try it out! This was in March of 2011.
  2. Did you know about virtual worlds before or was this your first experience with them? – I had tried sims but that was it!
  3. Has Second Life met your expectations? – Yes and well beyond!
  4. If you could teleport back to the first ten minutes of your avatar’s slife, what would you tell yourself? – That skin you are about to chose on day one which you will wear for at least a solid year, it looks like a bad spray tan, choose another!
  5. How long did it take you to master avatar flying and driving vehicles inworld? – Flying was pretty quick, driving took a little bit longer but wasn’t too long after.
  6. Do you have a mystery alt? – I do yes :o shh… Though I log in to her account maybe once every 3-6 months.
  7. Is your SL avatar a reflection of you, or someone you wished you could be? – My regular look has hair/skin/eyes/face shape/make-up similar to rl. Though I admit, full body shape is a bit different then regular, but who doesn’t give themselves a couple of fixes in their sl :P
  8. Is there an individual you met in SL that inspired you in your RL? How? – Yes, actually a few. Firstly the person I met when I was a noobie, who showed me around, he gave me another perspective on life with where he is from and his situation. Another I met a bit later, he was on sl while recovering from an injury which put him on bed-rest, he showed me all sorts of great music which I had never heard before. After he got better we emailed back and forth about music and about life. Some of the music he showed me are noe some of my all time favourites! And I could go on with others! I have met great people in sl, who effect me just like if I met them in rl :)
  9. Do you feel it is easier to create stronger bonds/relationships with people you meet inworld as opposed to the real world? – Yes. I am terribly shy in rl, which can come off wrong. In sl I can be a step more outgoing. If I say hi to someone and they don’t say hi back, who cares, it is isolated and I would probably never see that person again!
  10. Did you ever imagine or believe people could fall in love with someone they never met before Second Life? – I believe it, I have seen it happen with some of my friends, it is great how one can use sl as another way to find their perfect other half :)
  11. How has your perspective of dating changed (or not) since you started playing second life? – Nope. Same ol’ same ol’… I never dated someone in sl as I have been in a rl relation ship the whole time i’ve been in sl.
  12. How has your perspective of employment changed (or not) since you started playing second life? – Nope. Sl jobs in my experience pay little for the hours put in. Sl real estate is better for that, but is still no day job unless you invest a lot into your tier cost.
  13. Name three things in both your lives that overlap each other significantly. – Love of my cat. I have my rl cat named Pastela (which I named my account after when all my other tries for names were taken xD). Then I have my sl cat named Cuten who is nearly a year old now :). Personality, though I am less shy then in rl, I am still quite shy as it is a big part of me. And finally, well bio, if someone asks me who I am I do not fudge the truth, I am the same person in sl and rl :).
  14. If you could live your life more immersively in a virtual world, would you? (Kind of like the Matrix) – I think I would. To teleport! Hell I think many people would love that. To become whatever you want in seconds, I could be a cat for a day if I wanted too! I could fall 4500 feet and still get up from it just like I fell 10 feet… You do not age, do not get sick, infinite life (at the hands of LL). I think one would be a fool not to.
  15. How do you think behavior changes for people if they’re inworld vs in real world? Why do you think that is? – Some people become a different person in sl because for whatever reason they could not be that person in rl, thus behaviour changes.
  16. How has second life consumerism changed your perception of spending habits, the value of money, the need to be “bleeding edge” with fashion?– I have spent much more than I ever thought I would, I take it as a way to treat myself sometimes :). As for fashion, I still have the same look in sl and in rl though I do shop more in sl which I am okay with. It is for me, I do not think any avis judge me if I wear something that is out of fashion etc.
  17. Do you think virtual worlds like SL drive and redefine human interaction or do they narrow and limit it? – There are many ways to chat with someone across the world from you, but when you can dance, travel and build something together, it changes that limited interaction to be one way deeper. So it redefines, firstly due to the greater connection between distance, and secondly the ease to create a vision you want around you.
  18. If technology progressed tomorrow to allow you to send emotions to people the way you’d send text or voice messages, would it enrich your SL experience or infringe on it? – More connection the better! I use the mobile app so it is part way there, to have it integrated better like text messaging I think would be very cool!
  19. Name three skills you attribute to having learned or honed in second life alone. – Building with prims (manipulating them etc), using programs like gimp, sketch up and blender (started learning all of them due to sl), and knowledge of scripting in LSL.
  20. If your grand kids googled your Second Life Avatar’s name, would they be intrigued, disgusted, proud or something else? – As I said above – it is my cat’s name! But I also added Anna in front of it as I would get many people speaking to me in Spanish (and the only Spanish word I know is my cat’s name!). So they may question why the Anna, but I just thought it is a pretty name :).

There! Completed the 20 questions, that was fun ^^ Maybe it is time I get back into blogging agian!
